A new 6,000 sq meter mosque will be constructed at the spot where Zodiac casino used to be, at the crossing of Zhandosov and Rozybakiyev streets in Almaty, Tengrinews.kz reports.
Constructing works have started in August. The mosque is expected to be opened in April, 2014. The constructors have already dug a foundation pit: an excavator is working on the site. The gates of the former casino now feature designs of the future mosque.
The Spiritual Management of Muslims of Kazakhstan is behind the construction, the Architecture and City Planning Department of Almaty said.
There is no information about the budget of the project.
